Description:
Introduction
Crisis management has become an important part of healthcare because natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, cyclones, heatwaves, and pandemics are happening more often. Hospitals are expected to provide routine medical care and to continue their services during emergencies, when pressure and risk are very high. Proper crisis management helps hospitals keep patients and staff safe, protect hospital facilities, and continue healthcare services without interruption. This project, titled “Crisis Management in Healthcare: Preparing for Natural Disasters,” aims to understand how healthcare organizations plan and prepare for disaster situations. It focuses on emergency planning, staff preparedness, availability of resources, communication systems, and coordination during crises. Objectives of the Study
-
To understand the current crisis management and disaster preparedness practices used in hospitals.
-
To find out how aware and trained healthcare staff are in handling natural disasters.
-
To identify the main problems hospitals face during emergency situations.
-
To study the availability of resources and emergency systems for disaster response.
-
To suggest simple and practical ways to improve crisis management in healthcare.
Research Design
This study uses a descriptive and exploratory research design. The descriptive approach helps the researcher understand current crisis management and disaster preparedness practices in hospitals. The exploratory approach helps the researcher identify problems, gaps, and areas that need improvement. This design suits the study because it focuses on understanding the present situation and supporting better disaster planning in the future.
Data Collection
The researcher collects primary data from healthcare staff using a structured questionnaire. The respondents include doctors, nurses, administrative staff, and support staff involved in hospital operations. The researcher selects 50 respondents through purposive sampling. The researcher collects secondary data from hospital emergency manuals, healthcare books, research journals, and disaster management reports.
Tools for Analysis
The researcher analyzes the data using percentage analysis, frequency tables, charts, graphs, and simple interpretation.
Hypotheses
The study assumes that hospitals maintain basic crisis systems, staff training improves disaster response, emergency resources strengthen preparedness, and effective communication improves crisis outcomes.
Limitations
The study limits itself to one hospital, uses a small sample, works within time constraints, and depends on honest responses.
